Die Bitte des Paulus für den Sklaven Onesimus

Abstrakt

Interpretation of Paul's letter to Philemon faces the problem that the situation is obscure. Paul only alludes to what has happened. It is common to presuppose the use of a rhetorical device which makes it possible to deviate from the literal sense of the passage. It appears that a philologically cautious translation of Philemon 8, 18 and 19 might be a starting point for a new understanding of the text.
